Carina Tertsakian

Carina Tertsakian joined RAID in August 2026. She brings many years’ experience of human rights research and international advocacy, particularly on the Great Lakes region of Africa. In 2019, she co-founded The Burundi Human Rights Initiative, an independent project carrying out in-depth investigations and political analysis on Burundi. Previously, she worked on Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo for Human Rights Watch, Global Witness and Amnesty International, and was the coordinator of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Burundi in 2017. She is the author of numerous publications, including a book on prisons in Rwanda.
