Steve Crawshaw
Chair of Trustees at RAID
Steve Crawshaw became the Chair of Trustees at RAID in 2021. He served as the Policy and Advocacy Director for Freedom from Torture until 2022. Prior to this, he was the International Advocacy Director at Amnesty International, the London Director and UN Advocacy Director at Human Rights Watch, and a journalist at The Independent in the UK where he was the foreign affairs editor, reporting on the east European revolutions, the Soviet coup, and the Balkan wars. Steve’s most recent book is Street Spirit: The Power of Protest and Mischief, foreword by Ai Weiwei. He is currently writing a book called Prosecuting the Powerful due for publication in 2025.
