NGOs warn that the DRC's mining contract review process has been hijacked. It is increasingly apparent that new deals are being struck behind closed doors despite the lack of completion or transparency in the review process.

NGOs welcomed the publication of the review of mining contracts by the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and called on the government to ensure that the renegotiation of contracts is conducted openly and fairly.

In a move condemned by NGOs, the Governor of Katanga province and the provincial Minister of Interior prohibited a group of Congolese human rights defenders from flying to Kilwa on 1 April 2008.

RAID on Das Air: "Government Condemns British Aviation Company for Fuelling Congo's War"

In a move welcomed by RAID, The British Government has found DAS Air, a UK-based air cargo company, in breach of the OECD Guidelines on corporate conduct for its part in transporting minerals from rebel-held areas of the Eastern DR Congo.
